About the DVD
Based on an original novel by Rabindranath Tagore, Chokher Bali, a passion play, is set between 1902 and 1905. It tells the story of a beautiful, educated women, Binodini, struggling to free herself from the oppression of widowhood. Widowed within a year of marriage she moves into mahendras house as a companion to his mother. Mahendras wife Ashalata and Behari, who is on and out of the house. Binodini sees the husband the home and marital bliss that could have been hers and seduces Mahendra through the innocent medium of Asha. Yet, Asha and Binodini become inseparable so much so that they affectionately call each other Chokher Bali, literally sand in the Eye. Among these four develops a forbidden attraction a mesmerizing web of destiny and desire.
